Covid-19 Update

So many things have changed over the last few months, and we know you’re just as ready as we are to “get back to normal.” But it’s still important to honor the recommendations set by our state and city leaders as well as the American Dental Association (ADA) and Centers for Disease Control and Protection (CDC). We want to keep you and your family safe while still taking care of your oral health. You may have a few questions about what that looks like, so we’re here to answer them.

Is Anderson and Atkins Dentistry Open?

Yes! We are open! However, we are following the ADA and CDC’s recommendation to postpone elective dental procedures. Dental work that is not an emergency includes x-rays, routine teeth cleaning, teeth whitening, and other cosmetic fixes. If you have an appointment coming up and are unsure if it should be rescheduled, call our office. We’re happy to go over your concerns and help you determine whether or not you need to come in for a visit.

What is a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency includes oral pain, swelling, excessive bleeding, broken teeth, signs of an infection, dentures that aren’t fitting correctly, or a lost or a broken crown. If you experience any of these symptoms, call our office right away. We will triage your situation over the phone and give you further instructions.

What Can I Expect When I Come to the Office?

We are committed to providing a safe, clean space for you. Our waiting room promotes social distancing, and we ask that you wear a mask while in our building. In between patients, we sterilize all tools and shared surfaces. Please do your part in washing your hands and respecting guidelines. When you check-in, we’ll ask you about your travel, who you’ve been in contact with, and if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19. We want to honor the recommendations made for our practice and ensure that every patient feels safe and comfortable when they come in for a visit.

I’m Postponing a Routine Cleaning. How Can I Take Care of My Teeth While I Wait?

Even though you rescheduled your teeth cleaning, you can actively practice good oral hygiene. In fact, you’ll have a more positive visit if you are intentional about taking care of your teeth today. It’s never too late to start good habits when it comes to oral care. Be sure to brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day. Consider brushing after you eat, especially if you enjoy a sweet summer treat! While there’s nothing like that clean feeling in your mouth right after a routine visit, using the right toothbrush will help! Regular brushing is key to keeping your mouth healthy, but your toothbrush can only do so much. Flossing needs to be a part of your routine to make sure you remove plaque and debris in hard to reach places. We even recommend using mouthwash regularly to lower your risk of tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease.

If you have any questions about an upcoming dental appointment, a dental emergency, or practices our office has adopted, call Anderson and Atkins Dentistry today. We hope to see you in person soon!
